Join us on Tuesday, February 22 at 7pm for our monthly virtual Happy Hour and Discussion. Grab a drink or your dinner and log onto zoom to join your fellow farmers for some community building and fun.

This month we are excited to host Miranda Smith from Fare Start and Hannah Vertola from Food Lifeline who will talk about their organizations and their partnerships with local farms.  There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion.  We hope to hear from farmers who already participate in these programs or programs like them as well as anyone interested in learning more.  Any extra time will be spent on a general farmer check in, so bring any questions or topics of conversation for your fellow farmers.

For nearly 30 years, FareStart has transformed lives, disrupted poverty and nourished communities through food, life skills and job training. Our holistic approach centers individuals furthest from opportunity and helping people overcome barriers to move out of poverty, homelessness and food insecurity. We provide pathways toward personal stability and economic mobility, so people can support themselves and thrive all on a foundation of advancing race equity.  Through gleaning, Fare Start helps farms reduce waste and eliminate leftover crop, expand community outreach, and reduce labor for handling excess crop.

Food Lifeline is the Food Bank’s Food Bank located in south Seattle. We provide nutritious foods to hundreds of thousands of people facing hunger every year by sourcing surplus food from farmers, manufacturers, grocery stored and other food industry partners. We bring that product into our facility where thousands of volunteers help sort and repack this food, preparing it for pickup and delivery to over 350+ food banks, meal programs and shelters across Western Washington. We look forward to working together with more local farms to provide fresh, highly-nutritious foods that might otherwise go to waste.
