Join us for a Pest Management workshop with Dr. Louis Nottingham of Washington State University on Saturday, September 9th from 9:45-12pm at Caruso Farms in Snohomish.
Dr. Louis Nottingham (“Louie”) is an Assistant Professor of Entomology at Washington State University, located at the Northwestern WA Research and Extension Center (NWREC) in Mount Vernon. Louie’s research program aims to improve pest management through sustainable, integrated approaches in order to limit the need for broad spectrum insecticides. Tactics Louie’s lab focuses on include cultural strategies, conservation of natural enemies, physical and mechanical barriers, behavior disruptors, repellents, low-disturbance crop rotations, and rational use of selective biological insecticides.
Louie and members of his technicians and graduate students will provide an overview of integrated pest management (IPM) for mix cropping systems and discuss important pest and beneficial insects with examples from their collection. Louie’s students will talk about their current projects and how university research can lead to real-world solutions for organic and sustainable farmers. Finally, the group will visit crops on Caruso Farms to observe insects and answer questions.
There will be many opportunities to ask questions and have discussions with other farmers. A handout of resources will be shared after the event.
Location: Caruso Farm, 12801 Old Snohomish Monroe Rd, Snohomish, WA 98290
You will receive information about finding the farm and where to park before the event.
