THIS EVENT IS BEING POSTPONED DUE TO THE DETECTION OF AVIAN INFLUENZA IN WASHINGTON STATE. WE WILL RESCHEDULE FOR A LATER DATE WHEN IT IS SAFER TO HAVE VISITORS TO THE FARM. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.
Join us for Duck Management, an in-person workshop with Libby of Orange Star Farm on Saturday, June 25th from 8:45-11am. In this workshop participants will learn about managing ducks on a diversified small farm. Managing optimum health throughout their life, maximizing egg production, pasture management and permanent housing/bedding management. We’ll cover all aspects of waterfowl management and especially how they differ from land fowl, and the importance of effective breed selection for egg laying or meat production. We’ll also cover egg washing and some basic food safety strategies for managing poultry and vegetable production safely together and what scaling up looks like on a small farm selling a specialty product. There will be many opportunities to ask questions and have discussions with other farmers. A handout of resources will be shared after the event.
Location: Orange Star Farm, 21429 Old Owen Rd, Monroe, WA 98272
Coffee, tea and a light morning snack will be provided beginning at 8:45am; workshop starts at 9am. Please expect to be moving around the farm, so dress accordingly for both the activity and the weather. This workshop will run rain or shine.
There is a suggested donation of $20 for SnoValley Tilth members and $35 for non-members, to be paid at registration. Each individual participant must register for this event. Registration will open a month before the event.
